Who never collected a Panini sticker album when they were a lad? Who, I ask you? Finishing one of the buggers was a different matter altogether, 1986 was the closest I ever got. Here we are then with the first in my series of challenges: name the player or manager in the pic from their embarassingly different yesteryear Panini image. First up we have someone not particularly close to the hearts of Chelsea supporters, although he may well just have been a victim of circumstance when he was sacked not do long ago. The following description has been taken from the Ajax USA website (don’t click or you’ll ruin the surprise):
‘Naughty little X‘ are the first words that spring to Joop Brands’ mind when he thinks back of X, the football player. Brand knows what he’s talking about: he was the Amsterdammer’s head-coach for many years at Vitesse, Go Ahead Eagles and Telstar. ‘X was a lightning-quick right winger,’ says Brand, ‘but let me just say that he was… easily distracted. For example if there was a pretty woman watching on the sideline. You see: X used to be a tall, slim bloke at the time, which he no longer is, nowadays. I can assure you: he had a good time.’
