Sunday in the Premier League

I got to spend my afternoon watching the delights on offer from Cardiff City and Bristol City and what a treat it was. So much so, that I didn’t get to see either of these games.

Aston Villa 1 – 2 Tottenham

Villa are throwing it away, the buggers. I’d love to see arsenal fail to get a Champions League spot, I really would. Typical Spurs, doing them a favour. After only five minutes, Jermaine Jenas headed Spurs into the lead at Villa Park. Five minutes into the second half, a fine run by Lennon led to Keane’s shot being stabbed home by Darren Bent. John Carew gave Villa hope with a strong header with five minutes remainining, but it wasn’t to be.

Chelsea 1 – 0 Manchester City

‘Let’s be honest, every now and then you get a defeat you don’t expect. Sometimes you don’t expect it at home because you have a beautiful record there then, all of a sudden, it happens as it did for United yesterday. But they’re a very experienced team. Let’s see how they react. It’s not the first time that its happened, and the big teams always react. But it was a blow for them. Now it depends on their calmness. But, when you are in the drivers seat and someone else is coming up behind and you can see them in your rear view mirror, you can get a little bit nervous.’

Guus Hiddink isn’t getting carried away

In the clash of the cash, Chelsea moved ahead from a brilliant free-kick that fully exposed City’s pants marking, Lampard spotting Essien totally unmarked on the edge of the box, the Ghanaian hooked a first-time shot past Given. That’s all I have to say about this match.
