Thank God that’s over and done with so we can get back to some real footy. International week is awful and these are the pick of the games…
England 2 – 1 Ukraine
Fifth choice Peter Crouch belted home the opener after a Lampard corner was headed back by John Terry. The match then start to suck really badly as England totally failed to build on their 1 goal lead, finally being punished by Andrei Shevchenko’s 74th minute equaliser after England failed to deal with a free-kick. Just when it looked like the night would end in tears, supersub Beckham swung in a free-kick, Gerrard headed the ball across goal and captain John Terry was able to head in the winner.
Wales 0 – 2 Germany
After being utterly shite against Finland at the weekend, Wales fell behind after 11 minutes against Germany as Michael ‘lionheart’ Ballack thrashed home a 25-yarder. Wales then conceded a horrible second minutes just after half time with Ashley Williams clumsily turning the ball into his own net.
Do you really need more?
Italy 1 – 1 Republic of Ireland
Despite getting Pazzini sent off after four minutes, the Azzurri still managed to take the lead when Vincenzo Iaquinta swept the opener past Given. Ireland bagged a last-gasp equaliser, Robbie Keane bagging a leveller to eanr a famous point.
Turkey 1 – 2 Spain
I got to watch this one and Spain were well jammy to come away with a win as once again the Turks looked more than a match for them. Spain bagged an injury time winner, Fenerbahçe player Guiza running down a loose ball before picking out Liverpool winger Albert Riera in the box who made no mistake in front of the target. Gutted I was.
Bolivia 6 – 1 Argentina
Please Argentina, don’t sack Maradona! This was marvellous. The longer they keep that clown in charge the better. Bolivia recorded one of the truly great upsets in history destroying lardbelly’s side in devastating style. Martins’ 12 minute opener was cancelled out by Gonzalez but that was as good as it got for the Argies. Botero restored the hosts lead from the penalty spot before Da Rosa made it 3-1 lead at the break. The second half was even better, Botero claiming his second early on with Di Maria seeing a red card for the visitors in the 64th minute. Botero went on to claim his hat-trick before Torrico’s low drive hit Argentina for six.
