Man Utd 5-2 Tottenham

Some matches are remembered as the moment the league was won. Could this be this season’s defining fixture? In a tale of two halves, Manchester United came from two goals down to emphatically return to the top of the table. Crappy Manchester United defending was pounced on by Spurs with two goals in a stunning three minute period around the half hour mark at Old Trafford, Darren Bent crashing in the first when Ferdinand and Vidic failed to deal with a Corluka cross from the right. It was two before the Reds could even settle, Lennon’s cross was controlled expertly by Luka Modric who rammed a shot past Edwin van der Sar.

Howard Webb controversially (!) awarded United a penalty after Gomes appeared to cleanly win the ball of Carrick in the box, and Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to bag his 16th league goal of the season. With over 20 minutes left on the clock United moved into overdrive, Wayne Rooney beating Gomes easily at the near post for the equaliser. Sixty seconds later the turnaround was complete, Rooney whipping in a cross from the left and Cristiano Ronaldo’s diving header giving the Red Devils the lead. There was more three minutes later, Ronaldo dinking the ball to an unmarked Wayne Rooney who had no problems grabbing the fourth. With Spurs now comfortably beaten, United netted a fifth as crowd favourite Dimitar Berbatov bundled the ball over the line.
