Barcelona 4 – 0 Sevilla
The first midweek fixtures of the season saw no change at the top. After just 3 minutes Andres Iniesta curled a beauty into the top left corner. After 17 minutes it was two, Samuel Eto’o slotting home the second after a one-two between Iniesta and Xavi. Barca toyed with their opponents after the break as Xavi Hernandez hit the third, and Thierry Henry got on the scoresheet for the fourth.
Real Madrid 3 – 2 Getafe
Those buggers in white are hanging in there for grim death. Robert Soldado stunned the Bernabeu by heading Getafe into a 10th minute lead, although Higuain made it 1-1 before half time. The game came to life in the dying minutes, Juan Albin firing Getafe back into the lead only for Guti to equalise with a terrific left-footed free-kick. From the kick-off, Getafe won a penalty, with Pepe guilty of a foul on Casquero and then a crazy assault which saw him sent off. Casquero took a just horrible penalty, easily saved by Casillas and Gonzalo Higuain secured an incredible win with another excellent strike at the death; a jammy result if ever there was one.
