Playoff nightmare for Reading

Doubly gutted… Not only has Steve Coppell resigned following Reading’s defeat to Burnley in the play-offs, but another season mired in the Championship for the mighty Royals.

Reading 0 – 2 Burnley (Agg. 0-3)

Big Owen Coyle’s side have booked their place at Wembley to play Sheffield United in the playoff final thanks to a couple of absolutely brilliant goals. Martin Paterson got the first five minutes into the second half with a humdinger that gave Marcus Hahnemann no chance. Minutes later, Steven Thompson looped the ball over the Reading keeper for the second.

Coppell:

‘Following our exit from the play-offs, I feel it’s the best thing, for both the club and myself, for me to leave. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Reading manager and would like to thank everyone connected to the club for the support I have received.’
