Going down with the Burnley, sang young Johnny in 1976… They’re back
After 33 years spent trawling around the lower divisions and a knackering campaign that has encompassed 61 matches, Burnley are a top-flight club once again. Wade Elliott was the match winner for the Clarets, the midfielder picking up a loose ball outside the penalty area in the 13th minute before curling in a real beauty over Paddy Kenny and into the top corner. The Blades couldn’t find a way back into the game, losing Jamie Ward for a second bookable offence in the second half after an obvious as hell handball in the box. There was fury at Mike Dean’s denial of two penalty claims, but United were beaten by the better team.
