…and still no clear winner to be had.
Hannover 0 – 5 Wolfsburg
The Mario Gomez debacle of last week doesn’t seem to have forced a total collapse in the VW camp. Edin Dzeko scored yet another outstanding goal to visitors ahead, the Wolves then aimed to kill the game off before halftime, big Grafite muscling his way into the box to claim goal number two before getting his brace three minutes later to make it 3-0 at half time.
After the break, knowing goal difference could potentially be crucial in deciding who will win the league, Edin Dzeko headed home an easy fourth to put the result beyond doubt. Dzeko completed his hat-trick, and the pummeling, with a header.
Hoffenheim 2 – 2 Bayern Munich
They’ve been out of the race for a while now but this result will still feel good for the Hoff. Franck Ribery scored a rebound from a weak Hildebrandt save to give Bayern the early lead at Hoffenheim, but the Villagers were soon level, Demba Ba ran in behind the defence before slotting home the equaliser. Then the hosts turned the match in their favour when Carlos Eduardo was there to score after Ba had headed against the post. Bayern levelled before the break after Ribery worked his magic down the left hand side before crossing for Luca Toni to head home. Too little, me thinks.
Stuttgart 2 – 0 Energie Cottbus
A Thomas Hitzlsperger free-kick missed everyone in the box before nestling in the far corner of the Cottbus net after 19 minutes and Jeronimo Cacau put the game to beyond the visitors 10 minutes from time.
Hamburg 0 – 1 Cologne
Hamburg got off to a poor start at home to Cologne, Fabrice Ehret striking the visitors ahead after 9 minutes. A decent campaign ruined in a matter of two weeks for Hamburg.
Werder Bremen 1 – 3 Karlsruhe
Lars Stindl gave basement team Karlsruhe the lead at Werder with a header on the half hour. Karlsruhe then doubled their advantage with a superb second, again from Stindl, the ball popping up perfectly for the striker to crash home a half-volley into the top corner. An incredible victory was secured by Karlsruhe’s third, Fries teeing up Alexander Iashvili to fire in number three in the 54th minute. Hugo Almedia bagged a consolation for Bremen.
Bochum 2 – 0 Eintracht Frankfurt
Iranian striker Vahid Hashemian scored a back post header against Frankfurt midway through the first half. Crap Frankfurt defending resulted in Diego Klimowicz adding a second in the 72nd minute.
Bayer Leverkusen 5 – 0 Moenchengladbach
Gladbach fell behind at Bayer after Stefan Kiessling broke down the right channel, made his way into the box, and fired into the far bottom corner. Patrick Helmes double Leverkusen’s lead with a second from close range just before the break. A well-taken goal, scored with the outside of his boot by Gonzalo Castro, sealed Glabach’s fate in the 68th minute. Galbach’s embarrassment was completed by Michal Kadlec’s fourth and an own-goal from Dante ended the match.
Borussia Dortmund 6 – 0 Arminia Bielefeld
Sebastian Kehl met a 43rd minute free-kick before the Arminia keeper to hand Borussia a halftime lead. Dortmund doubled their lead minutes after the restart with Tamas Hajnal scoring number two. Nelson Valdez’s third with 20 minutes to go confirmed Dortmund’s eight win in nine matches, Sebastian Kehl completing his brace as Arminia’s relegation looked to be also a certainty. Tinga headed in number five with Mohamed Zidan grabbing number six late on.
