Tactical genius Alan Shearer praised his side after they came from behind to beat Middlesbrough for a vital win. Newcastle got off to the worst possible start though, conceding inside three minutes. Alves played the ball into big Tuncay Şanlı, the Turk turning brilliantly before Habib Beye eventually sent the ball into his own net. The Magpies hit back quickly, Steven Taylor rose like a salmon unchallenged to head home a Guthrie corner.
This was a poor match with Boro arguably looking the more likely to score next. Drifting down shit creek fast, Shearer made his best tactical change to date, although that ain’t saying much, subbing his old pal Owen for Obafemi Martins in the 69th minute. Within 20 seconds, the Nigerian managed to score. Five minutes from time Boro were put out of their misery, Nolan’s cross from the right found Peter Lovenkrands free in the six yard box and the Dane smashed home the third.

That should be enough for Newcastle to stay up now as I can’t see Hull getting a point from anywhere, they are in total freefall!

Thanks Tom, have to agree with you and it’s a real shame as I feel relegation is more than Newcastle deserve.
Will be in touch.
