Portsmouth 3 – 1 Sunderland

The only thing that can save the Black Cats is the ineptitude of the other teams in the relegation amble. They gave it a go last night though, to be fair, taking the lead on 60 minutes via a superb move engineered by Calum Davenport, who released an inch-perfect cross for Kenwyne Jones to stick home. Davenport went from champ to chump inside 60 seconds though, the defender misplacing his header straight into the path of John Utaka who powered his way into the box to score. The Black Cats then imploded, Anton Ferdinand kicking air when trying to meet a long punt forward, Utaka collected the loose ball and rounded Fulop before Phil Bardsley, trying to clear the danger, slid the ball over his own line. With Sunderland looking for an equaliser, Pompey made the game safe in the 87th minute.
