Scottish excitement

Rangers 1 – 0 Celtic

So, it was, apparently, all over bar the shouting at the weekend after this result. The league was Rangers’ for the losing. Celtic were lucky not to fall behind after a majestic Stevie Whittaker cross ended up whacking off the far post after missing everyone in the box.

Rangers continued to press, finally taking the lead when Kenny Miller broke into the box and his cross was turned home by Steven Davis in the 36th minute. Rangers held out for the win that opened up a two point lead over their great rivals with three games left. League over, or so it seemed.

And so on to the midweek fixtures…

Hibernian 1 – 1 Rangers

With the league in their hands, Rangers surely wouldn’t balls up this game, would they? Hibs upset the apple cart by taking the lead against Rangers five minutes before the break, Derek Riordan curling in a beauty into the top corner.

Ten minutes from time Rangers drew level, Nacho Novo scoring a scrappy equaliser, but Rangers failed to find the winner, thus losing the impetus recently won in the Old Firm derby.

Celtic 2 – 1 Dundee United

Would Celtic regain the initiative? Of course they bloody did. Big Glenn Loovens rose high to head home a Nakamura corner giving Celtic a 22nd minute lead. A deflected Georgios Samaras shot handed Celtic a 2-goal cushion in the 52nd minute. But the visitors quickly pulled a goal back to put the cat amongst the pigeons, David Robertson scoring after getting on the end of a fine Paul Dixon cross.
