What a bunch of bastards this team has always been. Behaving with a total lack of honour is nothing new for the buggers in white, going back to the days of fascist scumbag Franco and his backing of Real over their rivals Barça.
During the 1950s, the rivalry intensified when the clubs disputed the signing of Alfredo di Stéfano, who of course finally played for Real Madrid and was key in the subsequent national and European success achieved by the club, unquestionably due to the influence of a bunch of fascist bastards.
Team built on the back of fascism 7-3 Eintracht Frankfurt: European Cup Final, 1960
El Ponso, writing on a Guardian blog, notes how the buggers in white operate:
In 1992 in an attempt to alleviate the sorrow financial situation of the spanish footbal, the then minister Solana (Now at the EEC) issued a decree that it would transform all of the football clubs in the first and second divisions in ‘Sociedades Anónimas Deportivas’ (Sport anonymous companies) in order to enjoy a number of privileges regarding taxation, profits, debts, etc. Needless to say that it’s been an absolute fiasco. However, only four clubs in the actual first division refused to go along with this: Osasuna, Athletic Bilbao, Barcelona and Real.
Thus they are regarded as ‘non profitable enterprises’ by the law with all the consecuences that this imply.
So it is very much up to who runs the club (a president elected by the ’socios’) and his personal charisma, financial status, power links, etc.Florentino’s personal attributes are irrelevant here, although he comes across as a rather likeable chap. What it really counts is his innate talent for business. (He’s one of the richest businessman in Europe).
Whether his way of doing business would sucess in the special world in which football thrives or not is another matter. But he’s got the experience of the previous galactico’s era.His idea of the ‘Real Madrid Brand’ to flood the world was excellent back then and it would no doubt work again now. But… but, football is not a factory in which you plan, design and produce your goods and then send around the planet to be sold.
You need success on the pitch. So, would Real fail to win Leagues, CL’s, etc. the product would fail.
As for the rest, specially Barça, it’s normal and understanding that they are complaining and mourning.
For example, Barça have just won an historic treble only a fornight ago. The best achievement ever for spanish football. Yet, everybody is talking about Real and Florentino.
