The UEFA Super Cup was established in 1972, originally played over two legs, one at each participating club’s stadium. Since the 1998 competition, the final has been a single match, played at a neutral venue, the Stade Louis II in Monaco. The competition, apart from on a few rare occasions, has proven to be as crap as it was last night. The dour first half was a truly lacklustre affair, Barcelona creating more chances than Shakhtar but unable to come anywhere near finding the net. The second half also brought no goals, Zlatan embarrassing himself with a pitiful effort. Unfortunately, as it meant another half hour of drudgery, the match was forced into extra time, but five minutes from time Messi played a lovely one-two with Pedro Rodriguez who curled home the winner as Barça won their second trophy of the season.
