Real Madrid 5 – 0 Xerez
That bugger Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the first minute with a trademark run and low finish with his right foot. It took until the last 15 minutes for the Buggers in white to put real gloss on the scoreline, Ronaldo bagging his second with a powerful header, Guti continued his fine recent scoring run and in the dying minutes Karim Benzema and Ruud van Nistelrooy reminded Pellegrini of their finishing prowess.
Barcelona 5 – 2 Atletico Madrid
Quick fire goals from new boy Zlatan Ibrahimovic and little Leo Messi put Barça 2-0 up inside the opening 16 minutes. Barça then added two more goals before the break, the mighty Dani Alves converted a free-kick before Keita tapped home after great work from Zlatan and Messi in the build up. Kun Aguero managed to get Atleti on the scoresheet just before the break. A late Diego Forlan goal proved mere consolation for the visitors with Leo Messi adding a fifth at the death for Barça.
AC Milan 1 – 0 Bologna
I had the chronic misfortune of having to sit through 90 full minutes of this utter crap. Clarence Seedorf won the match with 15 minutes left on the clock, not that it got my pulse racing in the slightest, the Dutch midfielder picked up the ball wide on the left before heading off into the box and, with no tackle forthcoming Seedorf was able to run through and score all too simply.
Cagliari 1 – 2 Inter Milan
At least I didn’t have to watch Mourinho’s turgid team grind out a result. After Maicon gave away a penalty in the Inter box, Jeda stepped up to put Cagliari into the lead. Ten minutes into the second half Diego Milito capitalised on a mistake by the home defence and the striker coolly beat the keeper to bring Inter back level. Minutes later Inter were ahead, Diego Milito was put through and the striker claimed his second of the match with ease.
Kasımpaşa 1 – 3 Galatasaray
Andre Moritz’s 26th minute opener for the potential whipping boys of this years Süper Lig was soon cancelled out by that lad Shabani Nonda on the hour mark. The Congolese striker then went on to grab a hat-trick for Rijkaard’s team, netting in the 89th and 90th minutes to sealed a dramatic away win and keep Cimbom’s 100% league record.
Fenerbahçe 1 – 0 Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor
Th team that disgraces Turkish football maintained their 100% start to the season, Brazilian Wederson getting the only goal of the game after 34 minutes.
Eintracht Frankfurt 1 – 1 Hamburg
I fancy Hamburg for the league this year and this draw keeps them at the top of the table. Hamburg struck early, Ze Roberto heading home a free-kick in ninth minute before Eintracht rallied in the 32nd as Marco Russ’ volley went through the legs of Hamburg’s goalkeeper Frank Rost into the net.
Bayern Munich 2 – Nurnberg 1
Ealy signs this season are that Bayern aren’t quite as bad as last year, although in this game they started of unluckily when Super Mario Gomez thought he’d given Bayern the lead when his shot hit the underside of the bar and fell on the line, but no, he hadn’t. Fully ten minutes into the second half Bayern finally struck, Ivica Olic slotting home after the hosts worked the ball through the visitors backline. Poor defending allowed Choupo-Moting to exploit a gap in defence to level, but a late winner from Daniel van Buyten handed Bayern the points.
Borussia Mönchengladbach 2 – 4 Hoffenheim
The team known for convenience sake as ‘Gladback’ raced into a 2-lead lead against Hoffenhiem with goals from summer signing Juan Arango and Israeli striker Roberto Colautti. But the Villagers pulled themselves back into the match when Sajid Salihovic, aided by some joke goalkeeping, scored directly from a free-kick just yards away from the corner flag. Interestingly-named Brazilian Maicosuel levelled matters on 86 minutes with further late, late efforts from Edu and Demba Ba sealing a majestic 4-2 win.
PSG 1 – 1 Lyon
Big Ludovic Giuly fired PSG in front after 29 minutes to put them on course for victory in the big match of the weekend in France. Bafetimbi Gomis came off the bench to snatch a late equaliser six minutes from time and help maintain Lyon’s unbeaten start to the season.
Feyenoord 1 – 3 PSV
PSV struck after a mere ten minutes through a Danny Koevermans drive after the hosts had failed to clear their lines. That chap Koevermans then swept PSV into a 2-goal lead, only for a heinous error in the visitors defence to quickly undo the good work, allowing Andwele Slory to burst through and pull a goal back for the hosts. In the 37th minute restored thier 2-goal cushion as Otman Bakkal weaved his way into the box and curl home an absolute beauty.
