Villarreal 0 – 2 Real Madrid
Real Madrid won 2-0 at Villarreal after another goal by Cristiano Ronaldo and a penalty by Kaka. It took that git Cristiano Ronaldo a mere 120 seconds of this match, Madrid’s first major test of the season, to break a Real Madrid record of being the first buggers from Madrid player to score in the opening four La Liga games. Ronaldo made history by cutting in from the left and firing a low shot into the Villarreal near post. The Yellow Submarine were sunk in the 33rd minute as Gonzalo Rodriguez picked up his second yellow card for a rash challenge on Kaka.
Real battered the Villareal goal at the start of the second half without success. Eventually, Real did manage to double their lead after the hosts had given away a penalty, Kaka dispatching the spot kick.
Racing Santander 1 – 4 Barcelona
Lionel Messi struck twice as Barcelona maintained their perfect start with this rout of Racing Santander. Zlatan’s superb start to life at Barça continued in Santander as the Swede headed the opener after 20 minutes. Three minutes later young Leo Messi opened up the smallest gap in the home defence, just enough to guide a curler into the far corner. Gerard Pique completed a devastating seven minute spell for Barça notching number three from a corner.
Just after the hour mark Leo Messi scored a spellbinding goal, drifting in from the left before cracking a beauty into the top corner. A solo stunner from Serrano gave the home fans some consolation.
