You’d have to as old as me to remember it but Liverpool used to actually be quite good. The 1978-79 season saw them at the height of their powers, with the legendary Bob Paisley winning his third league title.
His Reds that season were an all-conquering side, who fought off the likes of Brian Clough’s vintage Nottingham Forest and Ron Atkinson’s West Bromwich Albion to achieve a final points tally of 68, which was a record under the two points for a win system.
Goalkeeper Ray Clemence kept an incredible 28 clean sheets in a season that saw Liverpool concede only four goals at home, not to mention this absolute walloping of a Spurs side that had just returned from the second division.
