Everton should be lauded right now as they are getting by on a shoestring budget, have been completely decimated by injuries (i.e. more than just two players who just happen to be the only decent ones in the squad), and have still managed to come through it all while playing competitive, attacking football. Throw in the fact they’ve brought through home grown, academy players and there’s plenty to praise.
Liverpool, on the other hand, were crowing about being the likely, indeed worthy, winners of the league at the start of this year. They have then gone on to have a terrible year with yet another £20m+ signing from Benitez being as much use as a bloody chocolate teapot. The fact that people are now suggesting that we should praise them for beating a side in a competition they only got into as they were knocked out of another is, to me at least, really rather funny.
It’s quite a stark contrast really, let’s hope the worthy team gets into the Champions League next year.
